Flight rules
LONESTAR AERONUTS FIELD RULES
Courtesy and mutual respect with regard to model handling and flying are the underlying foundation for all our rules. These are a few tips to guide you in the right direction. "Common sense" and good judgment will take you the rest of the way ;)
-
Everyone must understand and obey current AMA rules and regulations.
-
If more than one model is flying an oval traffic pattern, that traffic pattern must be flown to avoid midair collisions.
The pattern direction will be determined by the current wind direction and / or first pilot in the air. For example: If the first pilot to take flight flies a “regular” pattern, then all proceeding pilots will fly the same pattern. If the first pilot flies a 3d routine, then all following pilots will fly a 3d routine or wait until the first pilot is done with his or her routine. Combat guys generally take up the entire flying area so let them have their 8-10 minutes as to avoid any mishaps. We’ve had a long running “unwritten rule” that helis fly, then planes fly (not necessarily in that order), unless both of the aircraft are flying a regular pattern flight. We have strayed from that lately in the sense that planes and helis have been flying together, but not the same pattern. That is generally not an issue but when a heli or plane is doing a 3d routine and somebody is flying pattern and another pilot is flying the opposite pattern, things can get ugly. We need to respect each other’s flight times.
-
Under normal flight, do not fly over or in the spectator / pit area. This area includes all areas behind the pilot flight line (chain link fence) and to right of the larger covered area. This includes micro helis, micro planes, tri-copters, quad copters, etc... Keep the flying out over the runway.
-
Do not fly closer to the pits than the edge of the designated rough grass area between the fence and the runway.
-
Verbal communication between pilots (and/or spotters) flying at the same time will include: "coming out", "landing", "dead-stick" and "runway clear", “low pass”, at a minimum.
-
Pilots will stand in the designated flight station for their operating area to facilitate clear and timely communication between pilots (and spotters, if applicable). Exceptions may include standing under the shade trees in summer.
-
When applicable, use designated starting stands or start on the ground as close to the runway as possible.
-
All flying shall be done in a manner showcasing the professionalism and regard for the privilege extended to us as modelers to fly R/C aircraft in a public park.
-
No person will be allowed to fly without current AMA unless buddy boxing with a current AMA Aeronuts club member. Guest flying privileges are available to AMA members when accompanied by an Aeronuts Club member.
-
There shall be no more than four pilots flying at one time.
